The story takes place in 1899 and is based on an alternate history of the Isle of Portland, off the southern coast of England. You play as Hito, one of the Knights of the Empire, and you travel to the island to investigate the disappearance of a member of the royal family and the presence of a rebel faction called the Sons of Washington. Soon, the fog descends, leaving you and the islanders to face the would-be rebels who have made a pact with entities from the Cosmos.

Into the Fray revolves around a general map of the island, on which you can choose from a series of missions to complete as the story progresses. These missions will take you through the island's streets, caves, and even secret underground tunnel networks. The streets are filled with corpses and infested with demonic entities, while the tunnel networks house a series of horrific rituals designed to increase the Fogs' influence... And as you search for a way to stop the ongoing destruction, you're bound to stumble upon some of the island's darkest secrets.
The tools of your trade will include an arsenal of devastating high-end firearms, ranging from hand cannons to triple-barreled shotguns to prototype weapons from the great Nikola himself. These weapons will be your best friends and your only hope for survival if you are to put an end to the bloodthirsty rebels and ancient abominations.
