Series composer Paul Ruskay was largely left to his own devices to create Homeworld’s now-iconic sound, drawing inspiration from Vangelis’s Blade Runner score, Brian Eno, and Algerian DJ Cheb i Sabbah’s sampling of traditional instruments from around the world. For subsequent Homeworld tracks, Ruskay gravitated toward rich, live-recorded instrumentation, including elegant yet intense strings, and traditional Indian vocals and instruments.

During the process of restoring the Homeworld Remastered Collection, Ruskay pulled the original DAT tapes out of a shoebox, dusted off decade-old Pro Tool Studio sessions, and had uncompressed versions of all the tracks made. The tracks were then carefully remixed and sequenced.
